Dialogue and the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation are reminding people of the importance of knowing their risk profile and the signs to watch for.

MONTREAL, October 7, 2026 - Dialogue Health Technologies Inc. ("Dialogue"), Canada's leading virtual healthcare and wellness platform, and the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation are joining forces to emphasize the importance of staying attuned to one's health. While a breast lump is often the first sign that comes to mind, it is not the only symptom that warrants attention. The likelihood of developing breast cancer varies from person to person. A better understanding of one's risk factors allows for a more informed conversation with a healthcare professional about the most appropriate screening approach.

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women in Canada. In Quebec, this translates to 25 new diagnoses and 4 deaths every day. The Quebec Breast Cancer Screening Program invites women between the ages of 50 and 74 to have a mammogram every two years. Screening needs can vary from person to person. Certain factors may influence the relevance and frequency of screening, including a family history of breast cancer, high breast density, certain genetic mutations, and various lifestyle-related factors. Being aware of these factors allows for an informed conversation with a healthcare professional to determine the most appropriate screening and follow-up approach.

Breast cancer awareness is more than just screening. A lump is one of the most well-known signs, but other changes in the breasts may also warrant attention. Signs to watch for may include:

  • redness, swelling, or increased warmth in the breast;

  • persistent itching;

  • an inverted nipple, meaning one that turns inward;

  • crusting or scaling on a nipple;

  • a change in the shape or size of the breast.

Although these do not necessarily indicate cancer, any unusual or persistent sign should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

Virtual care does not replace screening exams or an in-person evaluation when a change is observed. It can, however, facilitate access to general health information and help Dialogue members better understand certain recommendations or determine which resources to turn to in order to receive appropriate care.

"Breast cancer awareness starts with a better understanding of one's own risk and what is normal for oneself. A lump is not the only change to watch for, and it is important to know when to ask questions and when to seek care. Access to reliable information and healthcare professionals can help people better understand the recommendations that apply to their situation," said Dr. Marc Robin, Chief Medical Officer at Dialogue.

The Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation also plays a key role in supporting those affected by the disease, while helping to advance prevention and screening. Investing all its donations directly in Quebec, the Foundation offers comprehensive support for patients and loved ones, including psychosocial and financial assistance, wellness activities, and a free virtual clinic.

On the scientific front, the Foundation was the first to support the PERSPECTIVE project, a major research initiative in breast cancer screening. This innovative genetic analysis tool combines the results of a saliva test and a risk factor questionnaire to establish a personalized risk profile for each woman. By integrating factors such as breast density, family history, hormone exposure, and body mass index, this project paves the way for more precise and personalized screening.

"A better understanding of one's risk profile and the signs to watch for allows women to play an active role in their health. At the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation, we believe that information, awareness, and support are essential levers for promoting more informed screening and helping each person find the resources they need, at the right time," stated Karine-Iseult Ippersiel, President and CEO of the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation.

Together, Dialogue and the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation wish to emphasize that breast cancer awareness involves a better understanding of one's risk profile, screening recommendations, and changes to watch for. By staying informed and knowing when to seek advice from a healthcare professional, women can take an active role in their health.

For those who receive a breast cancer diagnosis or who are supporting a loved one affected by the disease, the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation also offers support and resources tailored to every stage of the journey.
