Welcome, new parents, to the beginning of a wonderful adventure, full of learning and moments of unimaginable joy – which will also undoubtedly be accompanied by many questions along the way. Your baby may not have come with an instruction manual, but whether this is your first time bringing a child into this world, or whether it is your first time meeting your new child, we here at Dialogue are ready to support you every step of the way. Even during the simplest of times, they say that it takes a village to raise a child, and during a year like this one, Dialogue is here to answer your questions and provide some peace of mind.

If one thing is certain, it is that a new child can be a rallying point. It can be overwhelming to sift through the surges of advice flowing in from well-meaning friends, family, and even strangers on the street, not to mention social media, and the internet at large. Through all of this, Dialogue’s team of licensed professionals is here to offer you only the best, most supported, and researched advice out there. We are here to provide guidance and advice on various topics, from how to effectively feed your baby, to what different feelings and changes in your body could mean, to what signs or symptoms could indicate a need for prompt, in-person care, whether for the new mother or her baby.

In this article, we are seeking to smooth the transition into parenthood, and offer a reminder - we are only a click away.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • Feeding challenges - like new sleep schedules, establishing a routine, learning how to tell between a good latch and a poor one, and a new mother’s ever-changing body - can result in discomfort, chafing, and confusion. We can answer your questions about how your child is growing and developing, but also about how you are feeling, too! If you are in pain or seeing skin irritation, don’t wait to contact us – let us help make feeding a joy for both you and your baby.

  • Now that you are home, you may start seeing skin rashes like diaper rash or cradle cap, you might encounter fever, coughing, or need help to tell the difference between spitting up and vomiting. If you are ever in doubt, we are here to help identify what might be going on, how to care for it at home, and when to seek in-person care.

  • While breastfeeding is something that is widely recommended, there are some cases or exceptions where bottle feeding is still chosen or necessary. This is in no way a failure, and we are here to support you in this journey no matter what.

  • Shortly after giving birth, a new mom’s body can feel like it has gone through the wringer. It can feel sore, swollen, even unrecognizable. Sometimes it can be hard to tell what is normal, and what isn’t. We can help you identify the difference.

  • Sometimes, babies cry, and we just can’t figure out why. When you think you’ve tried everything but nothing is working, we’re here to support you with that, too. Whether your baby is just over-tired, or stressed from the shocking transition they’ve recently made into the outside world, we can help you decide what to do next, when to go have an assessment done, and what to look out for.

  • After all of the visible and obvious changes to your physical body, it can be easy to forget about the impacts that major life changes, lack of sleep, hormonal fluctuations, and in some cases, isolation, can have on your mental health. For that, we are here also, and happy to talk at any time.

Now, take a look at your baby. You just spent nine long months waiting to meet them, and we are so excited to join you in giving your baby the warmest of welcomes. From all of us here, congratulations and welcome to parenthood!
